Bringing the Community Together To Honor Our Loved Ones

Madison, NJ – Good Grief will host the 5th annual 5K Run and Walk for Hope at Giralda Farms in Madison, NJ on Sunday, June 3, 2018. The annual event raises funds and awareness to help children, teens, and young adults after the death of a mom, dad, brother, or sister. The 5K Run and Walk for Hope is a fun, family event for all ages and abilities. It features a 5K (3.1 mile) USATF certified race course, a 2-mile walk with activities, and adorable kid’s dashes for children ages 3 to 12!

Last year’s event was attended by over 1,000 community members, with many of them wearing superhero costumes of their own design. The costumes reflected their resilience and the “superpowers” they gained working through grief after the death of a loved one. This year’s event is all about teams! Good Grief is encouraging registrants to work together to create teams in honor of family members and friends who have died, or in support of Good Grief program participants.

Cedar Knolls resident and Good Grief participant, Edward De Crescenzo, is team captain of Coach Diana’s Team. Edward attends Good Grief’s Nights of Support with his three children, who are 8, 11, and 12 years-old. “My wife, Diana, died a year and a half ago. When people ask ‘How is everything going? How are the kids doing?’ I tell them about how great Good Grief has been for us.” Edward explained.

Teams can work together to create team t-shirts, banners, and meaningful fundraisers leading up to the event. “Creating our team has given us the opportunity to speak about the help we’re getting, and to bring together family and friends for Diana. We still talk about her, we share great memories about her. We want to keep her memory going in whatever way we can,” Edward reflected.

The Good Grief 5K Run and Walk for Hope is a family-friendly event. Winners in each age group will be recognized as part of an awards ceremony at the end of the race, along with various awards for the teams ranging from “Leader of the Pack” to “Best Team T-shirt.” The day’s festivities will also include various forms of entertainment, music and guest speakers.
