On Sunday, December 11, more than 125 Good Grief families joined together to celebrate the holidays at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Parsippany and Princeton. The holidays are a difficult time of year for many, and we are grateful for the generosity of our donors and Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse for bringing our community together brightening the spirts of our families!

Good Grief, a nonprofit organization based in Morristown and Princeton, provides free support to children, teens, young adults and families after the death of a mother, father, sister, or brother through peer support, education and advocacy.

“Our families are missing someone at their holiday table this year and providing them with an opportunity to connect with others who are experiencing similar situation helped to brighten their spirits”, said Pam Sullivan, Good Grief’s Outreach and Program Coordinator. “We are so grateful to Ruth’s Chris Steak House as well as to several Good Grief donors for covering the cost of brunch for so many. Our families were grateful to attend the brunch!”

The Holiday Brunch hosted over 200 Good Grief participants and ran simultaneously in two Ruth’s Chris locations, one in Parsippany and one in Princeton. The families’ time together included enjoying a delicious brunch, crafts to make holiday cards to their person who died, candy canes and hot chocolate along with a visit from Santa. Shout out to Ruth’s Chris who even provided gifts for the Good Grief children to bring home. “Experiencing a death in the family can be an isolating experience, but here at Good Grief we want our families to know that they are not alone, they are understood and heard and there is a way to balance both joy and grief,” added Sullivan.

One Good Grief participant reflected on the day, saying “the holidays can be a tough time, but I love it when Good Grief families can celebrate and be happy together…it’s what makes Good Grief a special place.”

All Good Grief services are free to participants. If you know of anyone who could benefit from Good Grief’s services or are interested in volunteering or contributing, please contact us at: [email protected] or call 908-522-1999.
