Our vision is to provide free, unlimited, and accessible support and advocacy to children and teens throughout New Jersey, while helping New Jersey become a state to fully support and advocate for all of its children and families who are grieving.
Peer Support at our Family Centers
At our family centers in Morristown and Princeton NJ, we provide unlimited and free support to children, teens, young adults, and their caregivers after the death of a primary caregiver, mother, father, sister, or brother.
Our Nights of Support, peer support program addresses the needs of the whole child: breaking down isolation and stigmas, equipping families with coping strategies and communication skills, and promoting good mental and physical health.
Community and School Programs
Our school-based programs take a comprehensive approach to help children build resilience and to overcome loss and adversity.
Research indicates schools and peer groups are the two dominant environments where risk factors for children emerge following a loss.
School aged children need safe and supportive environments to build resilience and learn the tools needed to understand and process their feelings and cope with the current and future hardships.
Good Grief Schools supports the entire school community through four components:
- Routes to Resilience (R2R), which teaches K-12 students how to build healthy coping strategies and resilience
- Good Grief Groups, which supports students grieving the death of someone important in their life;
- Professional Development, which equips faculty and administrators to effectively respond to loss and adversity; and
- Parent Education, which helps parents and caregivers become more supportive and responsive to the children in their lives.
We have adapted our programs to begin working with community organizations to bring our work out of our center and the schools to the communities that need our support creating more accessible grief support and care.
“Without Good Grief, I’d probably be lost and so would my family.”
