Grief Expressions Summer Camp brings together kids from throughout New Jersey who have experienced the death of someone important in their life. By bringing together children and teens with similar experiences, camp creates a community of kids who understand and support one another. Marco, a 2016 camper shared, “Now that I’m with friends that had someone pass away, I feel like I can talk about it. We talk about good memories we have, and we play games to open up and express your feelings. It’s really helpful and it’s a lot of fun!”
Camp provides kids with the unique opportunity to tap into their creativity and imagination in a safe environment that encourages true self-expression. Throughout the week, campers will explore a variety of arts while developing skills, inspiring confidence, and having fun!
Activities will include:
Parents and family members are invited to join us on the final afternoon of camp for a performance and arts show. Campers will exhibit all they have learned and created throughout the week as we celebrate the end of camp.
Camp is open to children in 1st through 8th grade, with no previous art experience necessary. Throughout the camp, children will be grouped by age as they attend the various workshops. All art supplies, camp T-shirt, bag, and water bottle are included. A morning and afternoon snack is provided and campers must bring their own lunch.
High School students are invited to apply to be a Teen Camp Counselor for our Grief Expressions Summer Camp. This is an opportunity to gain valuable volunteer and leadership experience. If you’re looking for community service hours, have an interest in the arts, or enjoy working on projects we encourage your application! Throughout camp you will learn about various arts, provide valuable assistance to the professionals and camp staff, and be a positive role model for all of the campers. Following camp, we are happy to provide letters of recommendation and certification of hours. To apply, complete the counselor application below.
Community volunteers are essential to running our camp. If you are interested in how you can get involved please email Christina@good-grief.org.
