A Fun and Meaningful Night in Support of NJ’s Grieving Kids
Good Grief’s Great Pumpkin Ball Committee has been hard at work on this year’s seventh annual Great Pumpkin Ball, Speakeasy Soirée, to be held on Friday, October 20, 2017, at 7 PM at Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, NJ. Once inside the Speakeasy Soirée, guests will be transported back to the era of moonshine, cool cats, and red hot jazz to sip and celebrate the night away while supporting Good Grief’s mission to ensure that no child ever has to grieve alone.
“We are very happy to be a part of this event,” said committee co-chair Sharon Knightly of Chatham. “My husband lost his dad when he was a young man; he was the oldest of seven children and somehow, his mom taught them to be resilient. I have been a Good Grief volunteer facilitator for two years now. The difference Good Grief programs makes in the lives of grieving kids and families is life changing for both the participants and the volunteers.” Speakeasy Soirée will be hosted by energetic, and adorable, Good Grief Kid MCs who will share their story of resilience and hope. “Good Grief is a vital resource in this community. The Speakeasy Soirée is a wonderful way to support the work they do and to show the guests the important difference they are making in the lives of grieving kids.” said Ms. Knightly.
The committee is planning a fun evening of lively music, fine food and spirits, an amazing silent auction, and a 1920’s themed Whiskey and Wine Pull. Co-chair Sara Caldwell of Mendham, shared Ms. Kightly’s enthusiasm for Good Grief and the upcoming Speakeasy Soirée. She and her husband, Ryan Pirchio, joined the committee last year. “I lost my best friend as a child, and my husband lost both his parents. We both wish that Good Grief had been there for us, to help us cope with these losses.” All funds raised from the event will go directly to support the children and families served throughout the year. Good Grief’s mission is to provide unlimited and free support to children, teens, young adults, and families after the death of a mother, father, sister, or brother through peer support programs, education, and advocacy. The organization is 100% privately funded and the programs are free to families. “We feel lucky to be able to provide hope for grieving kids now and in the future,” Ms. Caldwell said proudly. “We hope the community will join us in supporting this important mission.”
